(Ophiophagus hannah)

Australia Zoo is proud to house the very first exotic venomous snakes in Queensland including a spectacular male king cobra. The king cobra is usually tan, olive-green or black in colour. It has faint cross bands down the length of its body which are pale yellow in colour. Juvenile cobras are shiny black with narrow yellow bands and can often be mistaken for other species. The king cobra is the longest known type of venomous snake.

Habitat

The king cobra is found primarily in India and Southeast Asia. The king cobra occupies areas of dense highland forests preferring areas with adjacent to a water source such as a lake or stream.

Diet

The king cobra's diet consists mainly of other snakes, lizards and rodents.
